428 Compact Excavator

428, greater performance and wider working ranges in a compact package

  • Longer dipperstick (1350 mm) – superior digging depth (2844 mm)
  • Zero Tail Swing
  • Blade with float function
  • Auxiliary hydraulic system
  • Compactness – transportability (trailer)

The 428 is a Zero Tail Swing (ZTS) small excavator in the 2-3 T class.

This compact model is heavier but provides greater performance and wider working ranges than the 425 thanks to its longer dipperstick.

The 428 is designed for limited-access jobs. Thanks to Zero Tail Swing, the entire house of the excavator, with the exception of the boom, rotates within the width of the machine tracks. So there is no worry about damaging the house or the surrounding environment. The operator can concentrate fully on the job.

Climb in and see for yourself just how roomy and operator-friendly the cab is. A fully adjustable seat and low effort joystick controls enable efficient operation, cycle after cycle.

This machine is equipped with a load sensing system allowing all operations to be carried out simultaneously.

All service points are readily accessible to facilitate daily maintenance and reduce downtime. The 425 and 428 are the first small excavators with an engine cover hinged to the top. Once again Bobcat sets the standards with class-leading service access.

The versatile dozer blade is invaluable for backfilling, dozing, leveling and it also acts as a stabilizer to increase lift capacity over front. Bobcat offers a blade with a float function to facilitate leveling work.

This machine is renowned for excellence in performance and productivity to handle even the most difficult jobs with ease. Powerful digging forces enable fast, smooth digging performance.

There are 3 main differences between the 425 and the 428: the operating weight, the workgroup (dipperstick length) and the relief pressures.

The 428 is heavier than the 425 (2925 kg in cab or 2787 kg in canopy version) but this model includes bolt-on counterweight of 177 kg as standard.

The 425 has a standard dipperstick of 1050 mm (pin to pin) while the one from the 428 measures 1350 mm. This distinction between dipperstick lengths results in different digging depth: 2541 mm for the 425 compared with 2844 mm for the 428.

The 428 offers an increased relief pressure, resulting in higher bucket digging force and better drawbar pull.

Limited weight / Easy to transport

Thanks to its limited weight the Bobcat 428 zero tail swing excavator can easily be transported from one jobsite to the next. The compact dimensions of the excavator – especially the low overall height – facilitate transportability.

Spacious cab

As on all Bobcat mini excavators, the cab is very spacious with the controls conveniently located. This makes it a very comfortable machine to operate.

Dig, rotate and dump – even in tight spaces

With zero tail swing, it’s as easy – and simple - as that. Zero tail swing allows the excavator, when positioned close to a wall, to rotate 320° either left or right. Thanks to zero tail swing, there is no worry about damaging the house of the excavator or the surrounding environment. The operator can concentrate fully on the job.

Zero tail swing

Thanks to zero tail swing, the entire house of the excavator, with the exception of the boom, rotates within the width of the excavator tracks. This design allows the operator to concentrate fully on the job and never have to worry whether the tail can rotate safely without risk of damage to the machine or the surrounding environment. In a word, zero tail swing = peace of mind all the time.

Hydraulic System

The 428 is equipped with a LOAD SENSING system, with very smooth, easy-to-control hydraulics, allowing all operations to be carried out simultaneously.

 Class leading service access

Easy service access – a feature for which Bobcat is known
All service points are readily accessible to facilitate daily maintenance and reduce downtime.
The 428 is the first BOBCAT mini-excavator with an engine cover hinged to the top. Special attention was given to ensure adequate height under the cover. Bobcat again is setting the standards with class-leading service access.

Blade with float function

The versatile dozer blade is invaluable for backfilling, dozing and leveling, and also serves as a stabilizer to increase lift capacity when lifting loads over front.
Bobcat offers, as one of the only manufacturers in this market segment, a blade with a float function to facilitate levelling work.

Auxilary Hydraulics

Like the other Bobcat excavators, the 428 features the industry exclusive user friendly auxiliary hydraulic system. The auxiliary hydraulic flow is controlled by a convenient thumb switch located on the right joystick. The operator can precisely control the direction of flow, and the rate of flow. This significantly facilitates operation of attachments such as the Hydraulic Clamp. The system allows the operator to select a continuous flow mode by pressing and releasing a switch, also mounted on the right joystick. This is especially useful when operating attachments such as the hydraulic breaker and plate compactor. The 428 is standard equipped with auxiliary quick couplers.
