442, zero tail swing in a compact package
- Zero Tail Swing (ZTS) design
- Oversized undercarriage for more stability
- Deutz 4-cylinder, turbocharged 54 kW diesel engine
- Dozer blade
- Working equipment – monobloc boom or circular boom
The 442 is a Zero Tail Swing (ZTS) midi excavator in the 7,5-12,5 T class segment.
This 7.5 T midi excavator combines features characteristic of mini excavators, such as rubber tracks, boom offset and compact design, with features of large excavators to provide unmatched flexibility and performance.
Thanks to its compact design, this machine is ideal for working in close quarters.
State-of-the-art joystick controls, load sensing and superior breakout forces allow the 442 to handle a variety of applications from trenching to landscaping and site preparation.
Thanks to Zero Tail Swing, the entire house of the excavator, with the exception of the boom, rotates within the width of the machine tracks. So there is no worry about damaging the house or the surrounding environment. The operator can concentrate fully on the job.
The standard enclosed cab features adjustable arm rests, suspension seat, heater and air conditioning for maximum operator comfort.

One of the most evident features of the 442 is the ‘zero tail swing’ (ZTS) design so the rear portion of the excavator does not project beyond the footprint of the tracks at any time when the upper structure is rotated.
Complementing the ZTS feature is the design of the front right-hand corner of the excavator so the machine can have a full 240 degree swing range. This allows the excavator to move alongside obstacles while loading at the same time a truck standing behind the machine.

Engine
• Powered by a Deutz 4-cylinder, turbocharged 54 kW diesel engine.
• Meets all emission standards.
• Direct injection.
• All service points are easily accessible.
• Very low revolutions guarantee a low noise level and long service life.
• Large capacity fuel tank (130 litres) for extended intervals between refueling.
• Diesel filtering & pre-filtering.
• The engine compartment is completely protected underneath.
Hydrostatic
• The 442 has a fully hydrostatic drive and load-sensing for optimisation of excavator functions in all operating conditions.
• The hydrostatic power transmission is based around a 2-stage variable displacement hydrostatic motor which, with full power shift, provides for two speed ranges in both forward and reverse directions: 0-2.7 km/h and 0-5.2 km/h.
• At the centre of the hydraulic system is an axial piston pump with load-sensing, coupled with a load-independent flow division (LUDV) system offering simultaneous, independent control of all movements.
Undercarricage
The 442 has an oversized undercarriage which provides outstanding longitudinal and lateral stability for all applications.
The undercarriage uses alternating inner and outer flanged rollers, reducing track wear.
The rollers, which are lubricated and sealed for life, are maintenance-free.
With an excellent ground clearance of 408 mm, gradeability in excess of 60% and a track width of 1.87 m, the 442 offers high performance and good stability, even on the most uneven terrain. It is equipped with a maintenance-free crawler-type undercarriage with triple grouser plates or rubber crawlers. The 442 also has an idler suspension with hydraulic crawler tensioning.
Instrumentation
The interior of the operator’s cab on the 442 has been designed in accordance with the latest ergonomic principles, with all levers and controls within easy reach of the driver and panel displays giving clear information on all operating functions.
Operator Cab
The insulated, full-vision steel cab offers a comfortable working sound level of 97 dBA, with the operator located in a hydraulically cushioned seat with armrests. The operator’s seat also offers longitudinal, height and backrest adjustments.
Maintenance
• Two flip-up hoods provide easy access to the main service points.
• The slew components are easily accessible by tilting the cab forward.
• The engine oil and engine oil filter change intervals are every 500 hours.
• The diesel filter and pre-filter need to be changed every 500 hours.
• The change interval for the hydraulic oil is every 1000 hours.
Safety
The Bobcat 442 is designed with safety in mind. When the left console is raised, the machine is inoperable; all hydraulic functions – both working equipment & travel functions – are locked out.
• Standard equipped for craning and lifting
• The machine is standard equipped with a safety (anti-drop) valve on the boom.
• The standard equipment also includes a load moment device to alert visually and acoustically the stability limit of the machine. This load moment device can be deactivated with a switch on the instrument panel.
• Anti-theft device
• A safety valve kit for the dipperstick is also available as an option.
• The machine is equipped with a battery main switch.
• A keyless ignition, which is very popular in rental applications, is available as an option for the 442.
Dozer Blade
• The dozer blade, which is part of the standard equipment, is of robust design with outstanding stability and lift characteristics.
• The dozer blade has an optional float position to make levelling easier.
